Three generations of leather
Our story began when Alfredo Solís acquired the tannery with a simple idea: build a company on honest work, real quality and the word you give a customer.
Jorge Solís Faure carried it forward and made it a reference in traditional vegetable tanning. Today the third generation runs The Leather Company, bringing that same leather to makers across the United States from Magnolia, Texas.

Vegetable tannage
Vegetable tannage for excellent tooling: carves and embosses superbly, cuts and molds well, and accepts oils and dyes evenly for rich color.
Vegetable tanned, oiled
Vegetable tanned leather whose tanning and oiling process produces superb carving, stamping and burnishing characteristics, plus it takes oils and dyes exceptionally well.
Full veg tannage, drum dyed, hot stuffed
Full veg-tannage, drum dyed and hot stuffed with a blend of oils and tallows for a rich feel. This leather gets better with age.
Chrome-veg re-tan, drum dyed, hot stuffed
Chrome veg re-tanned, drum dyed and hot stuffed with a blend of oils and tallows to impart a rich feel and ensure durability.
Drum stuffed or dipped
Drum stuffed or dipped with a special blend of oils, tallows and waxes for lasting durability in demanding, weather-exposed service.
Untanned, natural
Natural, untanned hide with exceptional tensile strength — the traditional choice for lacing, braiding and reinforcement where nothing can give.

Craft & quality standards
We work with heavy steer hides sourced in the United States and proven tanning methods carried forward by skilled craftspeople. Natural grain, marks and tonal variation are the signature of leather that has not been flattened into sameness.
